TUALATIN, Ore. – A popular fall tradition in Tualatin has been canceled due to high winds in the forecast this weekend.
The city’s annual West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15, but was called off Thursday because high winds would make the event unsafe, said city spokesman Rich Mueller.
For the last 12 years, hundreds of people dressed up in costumes and climbed into giant hollowed-out pumpkins to paddle across the Lake of the Commons in a series of races.
The event began in 2004.
This year’s regatta will not be postponed. It will return next year, Mueller said.
