TACOMA, Wash. -- Drivers already fed up with seemingly never-ending construction slowdowns in Tacoma are going to have to deal with another one starting Wednesday.
The eastbound on-ramp from State Route 16 to northbound I-5 will be down to one lane from now through spring 2017 as part of the project to extend the HOV lanes into Tacoma.
WSDOT says crews need to use that lane for a work zone to build road approaches to the newly constructed bridge over I-705 and SR 7. That new bridge will eventually carry all northbound I-5 traffic. Existing northbound I-5 lanes will be converted to HOV lanes.
Drivers heading north of Tacoma are encouraged to take SR 7 to S. 38th Street and loop back onto the SR 7 on-ramp to northbound I-5.
