Survey: Washington in middle of the pack of top beer-loving states

A new study by Budweiser found that the favorite alcoholic drink of Americans is – wait for it – beer!  Astonishing, right?

What is a little surprising is that Washington finished in the middle of the pack of beer-loving states.

The survey of 2,000 adults ranked the states where people are most likely to drink beer over other types of alcohol.

Here are the results:

1.  Massachusetts: 51%
2.  Missouri: 50%
3.  Wisconsin: 49%
4.  Oklahoma: 48%
5.  Arizona: 47%
6.  New Jersey: 46%
7.  Virginia: 46%
8.  Maryland: 45%
9.  New York: 44%
10.  Colorado: 43%
11.  Louisiana: 42%
12.  Florida: 41%
13.  West Virginia: 40%
14.  Alabama: 39%
15.  Nevada: 39%
16.  Oregon: 39%
17.  Maine: 38%
18.  California: 37%
19.  Iowa: 37%
20.  New Mexico: 37%
21.  Wyoming: 37%
22.  District of Columbia: 36%
23.  Idaho: 36%
24.  Michigan: 36%
25.  Washington: 36%

Only 36% of Washingtonians said beer was their social drink of choice. 66% of beer-drinking Washingtonians said they would choose domestic over imported beer. (Again, this was a study conducted by Budweiser.)

Nationally, beer was the top thing people order at bars.

1. Beer, 36%
2. Margaritas, 17%
3. Wine, 13%
4. Cosmopolitans, 5%
5. Gin and tonics, 4%

The survey also found Americans preferred domestic beer to imported beer by a 2-to-1 margin.
