Two people hit by car near Cheney on I90

NEAR CHENEY, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol is investigating an auto versus pedestrian collision that happened early Thursday morning on westbound Interstate 90.

According to troopers, two people were struck by a vehicle near exit 257 in Tyler, just past Cheney. Troopers said the collision happened when one car had actually hit a deer and pulled off to the right side of the road. The driver and passenger of that car got out to try and remove the deer, troopers said.

A tow truck at the scene had pulled up behind the disabled car and had its flashers on. It was at that point, troopers said, another vehicle approached the scene and was unable to slow down in time and veered off to the right shoulder and struck the two occupants who had gotten out of the original car. Both people hit were taken to the hospital, and one was taken via helicopter with serious injuries.

Troopers said the driver that hit the two people will not be charged, and are calling this an accident..

All westbound lanes were reopened shortly after 8:30 a.m.
