Suspect assaults Grocery Outlet worker with salad

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A woman is accused of assaulting a Grocery Outlet employee with a stolen salad.

Court documents said on Tuesday an employee at the Grocery Outlet on West 3rd saw the suspect, Katrena Pirtle, acting suspiciously while walking up and down the aisles.

The employees said he saw Pirtle pick up a salad from the store shelf and pass all the check outs. He told the woman she needed to pay for the item. He said Pritle responded by saying, “You guys have been following me this entire time, I’m just gonna steal anyway. F*** you.” She then picked up two tomatoes on display and tried to take them with her, according to the employee.

The employee then tried to detain Pirtle and she hit him with the salad on his left cheek, according to court documents.

Police responded to the scene and found that Pirtle had a felony warrant out for her arrest. She was placed under arrest. Officers then searched her purse and found drug paraphernalia and a needle loaded with heroin. Pirtle admitted to being addicted to heroin, according to court documents.
