The YMCA is expanding to Spokane’s South Hill.
The YMCA of the Inland Northwest will take over the Gold’s Gym on 57th. The transition is expected to happen mid-December.
The YMCA will add $250,000 worth of new equipment, according to a release, along with more programs like summer day camp, a cancer survivors group and a diabetes prevention program.
Officials were not sure what the transition would mean for existing Gold’s Gym members.
“We still have some details to work out, so we don’t necessarily have all of those boxes checked at this moment,” said Mary Berry from YMCA Spokane when asked about gym membership costs. “Watch for more information come mid-December, that’s when we’re really going to be making that full transition.”
Berry did say there will not be any disruption for existing members.
The current owners, Dave and Alethea McCann said transitioning to the YMCA made sense.
“We looked for an organization who shared our values and commitment to the community we have built with our members over the years,” the McCanns wrote in a press release. “It isn’t just about the bottom line – it’s about changing lives. We couldn’t think of a better partner to entrust with our members.”
