Five things you need to know about Pig Out in the Park

37th annual 'Pig Out in The Park' begins Wednesday!

SPOKANE, Wash. --- Pig Out in the Park is a popular annual six day food and free music event that happens right here in Spokane.

The 37th annual event started Aug. 31 and goes through Sept. 5, 2016. It features unique local food and music acts.

Here are five things you need to know this year about Pig Out in the Park:

1) There will be 12 free concerts this year – including Sir Mix-A-Lot! – but over the years, Pig Out in the Park has had more than 2,500 different bands play. Even famous artists like Kenny Chesney have played at the park.

2) Event organizers plan to serve about 160,000 servings of food at this year’s event. In the last 37 years, Pig Out in the Park has served a total of around 4.5 million customers.

3) The shindig costs about $300,000 to put on each year, but vendors help offset the cost by paying a fee to participate. The community and sponsors also contribute money to the cause.

4) This year, more than 150 food vendors, arts and crafts and local nonprofit groups will be participating in the park.

So if you want to check out this end of summer event, head to the Imax Meadow, Clocktower Meadow and the Lilac Bowl. Admission is free and is open daily from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. until Sept. 5.
