SPOKANE, Wash. – Police detained a man around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the home where a 2-year-old was found dead on Monday. He was later released.
Officials said the 2-year-old girl was found dead Monday at a home on East 55th Avenue near South Thor.
Court documents filed late Wednesday afternoon said detectives are looking into three people who could possibly be charged with criminal mistreatment.
Police are now searching for Jason Obermiller. He is wanted on a separate US Marshall's Warrant for conspiracy to commit bank fraud, but is listed as a person of interest in the death of the 2-year-old. Obermiller has an extensive criminal history with charges for domestic violence, assaults, DUIs, and malicious mischief. Court documents said Obermiller is also a drug user and that it was irresponsible for the mother to leave the children in his care.
As of Thursday afternoon, he has not been arrested.
