Man reportedly steals lock boxes, breaks windows in downtown Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – Police arrested a man they believe caused $750 worth of damage to a downtown Spokane apartment building and $500 of damage to a bank.

Police arrested 36-year-old Tyler B. McPherson on Monday.

The property manager to the Morgan Lofts on West Riverside Avenue told police she responded to the location because of property damage.

A male witness told police he heard a loud crashing while he was on the second floor of the apartment. Another witness said she saw the suspect trying to break into the lock boxes attached to a metal planter in front of the apartment. According to court documents, the witness said she also saw the suspect using a heavy piece of metal.

Police collected a metal object discarded in front of the broken entry doors.

According to court documents, a witness took a picture of the suspect and emailed the photograph to officers.

Shortly after, police responded to the U.S. Bank on Riverside Avenue for a report of malicious mischief. Police contacted an employee who advised the estimated cost for the damage at $500.

Police then responded to the intersection of West Riverside and North Stevens for a report of a man walking around swinging lock boxes at windows and breaking them.

Police contacted and arrested McPherson for second and third degree malicious mischief.
