Man in custody following robbery at Spokane gas station

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department said Thursday they have a man in custody after getting reports of a robbery at a convenience store overnight.

Police said they got a call of a robbery at a Zip Trip located on East Euclid Avenue around 3:00 a.m. Thursday. The store’s clerk called 911 and said he was just assaulted by a shoplifter who stole several items from the store.

The clerk was able to tell police the license plate and description of the car the suspect fled in and the car came back to be stolen. Police said the stolen vehicle was associated with a Jerome A. Grant, who they said fled from police for several days after committing various crimes including theft and eluding.

A nearby officer spotted Grant in the car driving erratically, and began pursuing Grant. Additional officers responded and Grant was taken into custody without further incident.

Grant was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of second degree robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and attempt to elude law enforcement.
