70-year-old man critically injured in crash near Mead

SPOKANE CO., Wash. – A 70-year-old man was critically injured and transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries after a single-car crash near Bruce Road and Day Mt. Spokane Road.

The crash happened just after midnight on Wednesday.

A witness stated he checked on the driver, found him unresponsive and began CPR. Deputies responded to the intersection and fire personnel took over CPR.

Deputies learned the Ford was travelling north on Bruce Road and failed to stop at a stop sign near the T-intersection at Day Mt. Spokane Road before leaving the roadway. The vehicle slammed into the embankment on the north side of the road and came to rest on a power pole anchor wire.

A second witness said the car did not appear to slow down before the crash.

Investigators believe impairment was a factor in the crash. They obtained a search warrant to collect a blood sample from the driver for later testing.

The driver’s condition was last reported as critical with life-threatening injuries.
