AGNESS, Ore.-- A Coast Guard helicopter with a crew from Air Station North Bend rescued a female hiker that fell and injured her head and leg near the Illinois River Trail, about 7 miles south of Agness, Sunday.

The Coast Guard aircrew made an initial rescue attempt, but was turned back by terrain and visibility. The crew returned to North Bend to prepare for another attempt during daylight hours.

A Curry County SAR team member familiar with the area hiked to the injured woman and treated her for non-life threatening injuries and stayed with her overnight.

A second attempt was made at 10:27 a.m. Sunday. The crew arrived on scene and lowered a rescue swimmer, who provided additional medical care and readied the patient for extraction. The hiker was safely hoisted and transferred to waiting EMS crews.
