The sunny day was perfect for the dedication of a solar farm near Kuna this afternoon.
The Idaho Solar 1 field is the first project in Idaho bringing solar energy to the power grid.
It's located off of South Cloverdale Road.
Company representatives say it will supply enough electricity for 9,000 homes a year and displace the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent of 5,500 cars.
"The nice part about solar is the cost of solar, it's actually more competitive than gas in most areas, so the cost to the consumer is cheaper for Idaho Power to purchase, so hopefully the consumer sees the benefit as well," said project manager Byron Lamon.
The 40 megawatt solar system sits on 563 acres and is the largest in the Northwest.
