Portland musician says on Facebook that he sexually assaulted woman

PORTLAND, Ore. – A Portland musician on Facebook said he sexually assaulted a woman, but no one has come forward to be a victim in the case.

In the Facebook post, Joel Magid, who is part of the local music scene, described forcibly lifting a woman’s skirt and exposing himself before a friend stopped him.

Magid said he was drunk at the time, but he doesn’t expect any sympathy. He is attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, he says.

Magid told KGW he had no comment about the Facebook post.

Meanwhile, a woman came forward claiming to be a sexual assault victim of Magid in a separate case after seeing his confession that went viral, according to a report in the Portland Mercury. The victim said the alleged assault happened six years ago.

Portland police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson said the bureau was aware of Magid's Facebook post and the recent news coverage, but police could not move forward without a victim in the case.

"If no victim has come forward, it really isn't our place to track them down and violate their privacy in a way they're not ready to do,” Simpson said. “There's outreach, we have social workers available, there are a variety of community resources available for sex assault victims to have that conversation when they're ready.”

Sex crime detectives are investigating whether the post was made by Magid.
