Body believed to be missing man, 86, recovered on Oregon Coast mountain

PORTLAND, Ore. – A body believed to be that of a missing 86-year-old man who was last seen in Portland was recovered in Tillamook County on Friday.

Duane Irving Anderson was last seen Wednesday morning at the Lloyd Athletic Club, located at 815 Northeast Halsey St., but he never returned home. His car was found Thursday by deputies with the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office.

The Coast Guard searched the coast line Thursday night and the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team searched the area Friday. They found a body they believe to be Anderson on Neahkahnie Mountain, although investigators are still awaiting positive identification.

Anderson was supposed to play golf after leaving the athletic club on Wednesday. Police said it was out of character for him to be gone.

Anderson's family thanks everyone who helped in the search, including Portland Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, Manzanita Police and Fire, and the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office.
