Coroner IDs Meridian man who died while test-driving motorcycle

MERIDIAN -- A man died Tuesday night after a motorcycle crash in a Meridian neighborhood.

The wreck happened at about 7:50 p.m. at the corner of Woodbury Drive and Larchmont Avenue, off Meridian Road.

Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea said the victim was test-driving a motorcycle he planned to buy from a friend when he crashed. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered a severe head injury, Basterrechea said.

No one else was on the motorcycle.

The Ada County coroner on Wednesday afternoon identified the man as Nathan L. Garrett, 34, of Meridian.

An accident reconstruction team is investigating the crash, but police say speed and inexperience are believed to be factors.

The coroner said Garrett reportedly lost control, struck a curb just east of Woodbury and Larchmont, then slid through the intersection and was ejected from the motorcycle.
