CLACKAMAS, Ore.-- The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting a free family fishing event at St. Louis Ponds near Woodburn on Saturday, October 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ODFW will release hundreds of trout into the ponds, as well as provide rods, reels and tackle and bait on a first-come first-served basis. People may also bring their own gear.

In addition to the stocked trout, the ponds contain several species of warm water fish such as largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, crappie and sunfish.

Anglers under age 11 can fish for free, while those between ages 12 and 17 will require a youth pass, which are available for $10 at ODFW's website (, offices and license agents. Adult anglers will need a regular fishing license. Licenses will not be sold on site.

St. Louis Ponds are located thirteen miles north of Keizer. Take River Road (219) to St. Louis turnoff, east under crossing the railroad tracks, south to the site.
