POST FALLS, Idaho – Deputies were called to North McGuire Road and West Midway Avenue near Post Falls for a possible burglary in progress just before 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.
A PFPD officer arrived first and detained 44-year-old Cody O. Westlake inside a barn on private property.
During questioning, Westlake told deputies he was driving by the barn and wanted to have a look inside. Deputies found pry tools and fresh damage to the barn doors. Deputies also pointed out several “no trespassing” signs all over the barn.
Officials said the barn has been victim to numerous burglarious over the years.
Westlake was arrested for attempted burglary, malicious injury to property, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officials said Westlake has a lengthy criminal history in Kootenai County, spanning 25 years.
Westlake has been booked into the Kootenai County Jail 25 times for a variety of offenses including burglary, theft, probation violation and forgery.
Westlake is currently being held without bail pending first appearance.
