HAYDEN, Idaho --- The man suspected of robbing a Hayden bank has a long criminal history dating back to 1999.
The North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Charles R. Bartkowiak, 34, on an outstanding $100,000 arrest warrant for robbery and burglary. Bartkowiak is the suspect in the Monday bank robbery at the Coeur d'Alene Bank branch in Hayden.
After getting "numerous" tips from the community from surveillance photos, officials identified the suspect at Bartkowiak.
According to a release sent out Wednesday, the North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force (NIVCTF) found the getaway car with the hatchet displayed at the time of the robbery and stolen cash still inside the vehicle outside Bartkowiak's house.
While investigators searched his home, they learned of a suspicious man seen in a neighbor's yard. NIVCTF members, along with a K-9 unit, quickly found him and took the suspect into custody without incident.
The suspect has an "extensive criminal history in Kootenai County," according to investigators.
Bartkowiak has previously been charged with possession of paraphernalia, underage alcohol, driving while suspended, fictitious displace, violation of a protection order, probation violations, inattentive driving possession of a controlled substance, fraudulent use of a bank card, second degree stalking, forgery and battery.
Investigators believe Bartkowiak was acting alone. The investigation is still ongoing.
The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said they were thankful the everyone who called in with tips and information about the robbery.
