KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho – A man who said he is a family friend of the Post Falls man found dead on Tuesday said Wednesday he was the one who came across his friend’s body and it freaked him out.

William “Bo” Kirk, 41, was reported missing on October 22 by his wife and leaving his work, Northwest Specialty Hospital. He was supposed to come home, but never showed up. Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the body found in the Coeur d’Alene National Forest on Tuesday was Kirk.

Brian Johnston said he was out searching for Kirk and freaked out when he came across Kirk's body. He did not specify an exact location or how Kirk was found. Authorities said Kirk's body was found in the Hayden Creek area of the forest.

Johnston said it took him “three looks” to realize what he was seeing.

“And then I was in my truck doing 45 down a dirt road to cell phone service. [Calling the authorities] It was the first thing,” he said.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office and the Post Falls Police Department are investigating the case. They said Wednesday during a press conference that the investigation was in its early stages, but they are determined to find who is responsible.

Authorities said this case is now a homicide investigation.

PFPD said Kirk's bank cards were used at US Bank at 8:34 p.m. and Bank CDA at 8:46 p.m.

Officials released a second surveillance video on Wednesday afternoon from US Bank that shows a second person in the truck. Investigators said they would like to talk to the driver of the red car who appears behind the suspects at the ATM drive-thru.

Johnston also said the family had hired psychics to help look for Kirk and they said Kirk was “in a ravine near water.”
