Coeur d'Alene schools warn of dangerous teen parties

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Coeur d’Alene Public Schools is warning parents about large parties being organized through social media where alcohol, drugs and "sanctioned fights" are encouraged.

School leaders said the party location is usually not disclosed until the night of the event when attendees meet at a predetermined location, such as a grocery store parking lot, and then travel to a rural area or a vacant home to gather.

A recent party in the area had 300 attendees and resulted in two teenagers being treated for alcohol overdoses, according to school officials. Another party brought an estimated 600 teens from Montana, Washington, and Oregon.

Coeur d’Alene Public School officials said they are working with law enforcement and students to discuss the dangers and impact of drugs and alcohol.
