The Idaho Department of Correction honored dozens of staff members at the state Capitol today for their heroic efforts.
In all, 27 staff members were presented with the department's Silver Cross award.
Department leaders says their actions saved lives or prevented serious injuries.
"In many of these instances these were inmates attempting to kill themselves, and our staff again put themselves in harm’s way, rushed in and took immediate action to save the life of an inmate," said IDOC Director Kevin Kempf.
Those honored are employed at several facilities south of Boise including the South Boise Women's Correctional Center, Idaho Maximum Security Institution and the Idaho State Correctional Institution.
