Man faces DUI charge after three-car wreck in Grant Co.

Near ROYAL CITY, Wash. – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said a 37-year-old man is in the hospital after being rear-ended by a suspected impaired driver early Wednesday morning near Royal City.

Deputies said Florentino Gutierrez, 49, of Royal City, was driving a 1999 pickup truck east on Road 12 Southwest. Authorities said Gutierrez was speeding as he neared the intersection with Road A Southwest.

The victim in the hospital was stopped at the intersection waiting to turn. Deputies said Gutierrez did not stop and hit the victim’s car from behind pushing him into the street where his car was hit again by another car.

The victim was taken to the hospital with fractures to his hand. Gutierrez was taken to the hospital in Othello where they found him to be impaired and he was then arrested. The driver of the car that hit the victim’s car once it was pushed into the intersection as treated at the scene and released.

Gutierrez was taken to the Grant County Jail where he was charged with driving under the influence. Deputies said he could also face vehicular assault charges due to the victim’s injuries.
