Cyclist dies after being struck by car in Nampa

NAMPA -- A Nampa man died at the hospital this month, just a week after he was struck by a car in Nampa.

Cruz Cantu Alegria, 52, died from his injuries at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise Nov. 16.

Alegria was badly hurt when a car struck hit him as he rode a bicycle at Lone Star Road and Midland Boulevard Nov. 10.

The driver of the car works for the Nampa Police Department, according to Idaho State Police, but the person's position with the department is unclear. Nampa Police say the driver was in their personal vehicle when Alegria was hit.

Nampa handed the investigation over to ISP to avoid a conflict of interest. ISP says the investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed.

Alegria's cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma. The death was ruled an accident by the Ada County Coroner's Office.
