Crews search for overdue hiker on South Sister Mountain in Deschutes county

DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore.-- Search crews have postponed their search for an overdue hiker in the South Sister area until Monday, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.

On Sunday, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Unit deployed more than 20 volunteers in the search for Gerald Derrickson in the South Sister area. The 38 year old hiker reportedly reached the summit of South Sister around 6 PM Saturday after separating from his hiking partner during his ascent. He failed to return to the trailhead as planned.

Gerald is a black man, 5'11" and about 230 lbs. He has a blue backpack and is wearing a black T-shirt. black long sleeve shirt, shorts and gray sweatpants with a black stripe down the leg.
