Convicted cat hoarder found with 42 cats in her car

SEATTLE — A Washington woman who was convicted last year of animal cruelty for collecting over 100 cats in a recreational trailer was arrested in Oregon on Monday night for investigation of animal neglect.

The Daily Herald reports 58-year-old Kathryn St. Clare was arrested in Warrenton, Oregon. She was taken to Clatsop County Jail and lodged there on the two warrants. She was also charged with 30 counts of first-degree animal neglect.

A police officer allegedly found 41 live cats and a dead one in St. Clare's car. The cats were all safely removed from the vehicle and were given fresh water and food. Clatsop County Animal Control, employees from the Animal Shelter and Bayshore Animal Hospital assisted in the rescue of the cats.

St. Clare also was arrested on Washington warrants from Snohomish County. St. Clare failed to appear for a hearing there in April 2016.

St. Clare likely will be extradited to Snohomish County once the Oregon case is resolved.
