ACHD presents $160,000 check to Operation Warm Heart

A big gift today for local military families.

Ada County Highway District commissioners presented Mountain Home airmen with a $160,000 check for "Operation Warm Heart" during today's meeting at ACHD headquarters in Garden City.

Operation Warm Heart was the recipient charity for this year's 15th annual ACHD Charity Golf Tournament, in which more than 140 golfers played.

Makeba Liebert with Operation Warm Heart says the money will do a lot for local military and civilian personnel and their families.

“All of this money will go back to the gunfighter families in Mountain Home Air Force Base," said Liebert. "We give grants allowing people not to pay us back for individuals who are in hardships. So if they come and they are not able to go home to see family members, or if they don't have food in their house, or they need anything -- we come as a group, and we vote on it, and we give them this money."

ACHD says in light of Gov. Otter's proclamation that 2016 be "The Year of Idaho's Military Families," Operation Warm Heart was an obvious choice for this year's benefit.
