BOISE -- There's a new connection between the Boise Airport and the Los Angeles International Airport.
The first Delta flight from BOI to LAX took off this morning.
Boise Airport Director Rebecca Hupp says the connection was added because of high demand for travel in the Treasure Valley.
Today's inaugural flight kicked-off with prizes for passengers -- including free Delta airlines tickets -- and a water arch while the plane was taxiing to the runway.
Airport officials say Delta's non-stop flight from Boise to Los Angeles has been in the works since March.
"LA is one of our top markets especially when you look at the metropolitan statistical areas. It's a very popular destination, and also it's very important for connectivity, particularly on international routes," Hupp said.
And there are more new connections coming to the Boise Airport this month.
On Sunday, Southwest Airlines will start non-stop service to Chicago's Midway Airport.
And in less than two weeks, Alaska Airlines is adding a flight to Salt Lake City.
The Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce says adding direct flights to big cities to help local business is one of its main priorities.
