A Grangeville woman was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to five years of probation for embezzling thousands of dollars.

Mari Mort, a 46-year-old postal employee, pleaded guilty to misappropriating postal funds in March. Prosecutors said she targeted local company Water Oz by charging them for packages they did not mail, then refunding the money to herself.

Mort has also been ordered to repay $7,721.58. The thefts occurred between February 14, 2011, and June 13, 2013.

Mort was arrested after an investigation by the Office of Inspector General for the United States Postal Service.
