JEROME, Idaho -- Where's the beef? Well, just before 2 a.m. Wednesday the answer was on Interstate 84 in south-central Idaho.

The Jerome County Sheriff's Office says about 20 head of cattle were in a construction area at the interstate's junction with U.S. Highway 93 southeast of Jerome. Officers closed a 5-mile stretch of the interstate for about 2.5 hours while deputies and volunteers rounded up the bovines.

Chief Deputy Jack Johnson says fortunately, there were no accidents before the road was closed.

Johnson says deputies put down one cow because they could not get it corralled several hours.

He says the owner was understanding.
