RUPERT, Idaho -- Authorities in Rupert say they have made an arrest after farm worker was found shot in a potato field in Paul Tuesday afternoon.
Around 2:15 p.m., officers with the Rupert Police Department and Minidoka County Sheriff's Office were called to the area of 700 North 1050 West in Paul. They found 31-year-old Encornacion Duarte-Jabalera lying on the ground near a tractor suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. His condition is unknown.
Minidoka County Sheriff Eric Snarr says Duarte-Jabalera was shot at least one time in the abdomen with a handgun by a co-worker. He adds that a work-related dispute may have been the reason for the shooting. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and hope to talk with the victim.
After the shooting, officers located 36-year-old Rogelio Munoz Chavez's work truck abandoned at a Rupert residence. The suspect was found hiding in some sagebrush about a half mile away.
Munoz Chavez was arrested and booked into the Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center on a felony charge of aggravated battery with a weapons enhancement.
Snarr says each charge carries a maximum of 15 years in prison.
Munoz Chavez will be arraigned this afternoon.
