RUPERT, Idaho -- A 30-year-old Rupert man escaped serious injury when his pickup truck was struck by a freight train northeast of Rupert.

Minidoka County Sheriff Eric Snarr says Rolando Macias was southbound at about 5:15 p.m. Thursday when the train hit the passenger's side of the pickup and spun it around, causing it to collide with the second engine on the 61-car train.

Snarr says Macias was very lucky. He was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.

Snarr says Macias will be cited for failure to yield.
