IDAHO FALLS -- An official says a 52-year-old Ashton man died in a snowmobiling accident.

The Post Register reports Layne Armstrong died after his snowmobile crashed into a fence post Saturday night.

Falls River Electric Cooperative spokesman Ted Austin says Armstrong worked as a lineman for the utility for more than 30 years.

Austin says Armstrong was returning from a trip out of Ashton with other members of the Targhee Ridge Runner snowmobile club when he crashed.

Fremont County Sheriff's Office dispatch operator Megan Swensen says Armstrong died before medical help could arrive.
