BOISE -- A woman who claimed to be sexually assaulted in Boise's North End Wednesday morning has recanted her story, according to Boise Police detectives investigating the case.
The woman told police that she was returning home near N. 15th and Lemp streets when a man pushed her through her front door and sexually assaulted her. Police were contacted later that day and began an investigation.
As the investigation began to unfold, the woman told detectives there was no attack, that she made up the story.
The woman could face a charge of filing a false police report. Detectives will forward their investigation to the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review. She could face fines and/or jail time.
Boise Police say these investigations cost time and money. They hope isolated cases like this one do not deter other real victims of sexual assault from reporting crimes.
