BOISE -- It's being called a wildlife oasis in the middle of town.
The city of Boise unveiled the Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve Tuesday morning.
The 54-acre urban wildlife sanctuary is located on Maple Grove Road, about a quarter mile south of the Chinden Boulevard intersection.
The Hyatt family donated much of the wetland area to the city.
Over the last four years, several groups have worked to improve the area's habitat for animals, with the added benefit of stormwater treatment.
“In partnership with the Ada County Highway District and the EPA, who provided a substantial grant, we've been able to develop a stormwater filtration system through the wetlands so that storm water from the roadways will naturally filtered and then returned eventually as clean water to the Boise River,” said Boise City Council President Maryanne Jordan.
The sanctuary features new running paths through the reserve, as well as educational kiosks, if you want to learn more about the local wildlife.
