BONNERS FERRY, Idaho -- The remains of a soldier slain in Afghanistan returned home to northern Idaho on Friday.

Twenty-two-year-old Spc. Ethan J. Martin was killed by enemy fire on Aug. 7.  Martin's remains arrived at the Sandpoint Airport at 10 a.m. Friday, and the Army held a ceremony to transfer the remains to Martin's family.

A funeral for Martin will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Bonners Ferry High School, with interment to follow at Paradise Valley Cemetery. The funeral and interment are open to the public.

Martin joined the Army in 2009. He was based in Alaska's Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, and his 3,500-soldier brigade went to Afghanistan in December.
