BOISE -- There's a new owner of the Hammer Flat area.
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game bought the property from the city of Boise for $4.2 million.
The city of Boise bought the nearly 705-acre property in 2010 to protect it as open space.
Idaho Fish and Game's director says its purchase of Hammer Flat from the city will help keep big game herds in the area healthy and growing for years to come.
The city of Boise will use the money from the sale of the property to protect other wildlife areas in and around Boise.
