GEM COUNTY -- Three people were flown to a Boise hospital after a head-on crash on Highway 16 this morning.  The names or conditions of those hurt has not been released.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. at mile post 9.5 between Chaparral Road and Jackass Gulch Road, near Freezeout Hill.

Idaho State Police, Ada and Gem County Sheriff's departments responded to a two-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes.

The highway was blocked in both directions for about two-and-a-half hours and traffic diverted away from the crash while emergency crews responded.

Ada and Gem County deputies, and the Idaho Transportation Department assisted with traffic control.
