NEAR MCCORMICK LAKE, Idaho -- An avalanche claimed the life of a Washington snowmobiler over the weekend in Idaho.

Marek Dabrowski, 32, was riding near McCormick Lake in Boundary County when he was carried down a hill by an avalanche and ended up buried in snow.

Marek's girlfriend, Desi Gumaer, was hoping her three year old son, Kemper, would get to snowmobile with his dad at least once.

"That was the last thought from my mind that I would lose him that way," said Desi.

On Saturday, four other snowmobilers noticed Marek under the snow around 1 p.m.  They took about 25 minutes to dig him out but his neck was broken.

"I just kept thinking he he's just got to be hurt.  He's too bull-headed to die that way.  When I got to my parents house, there was a cop there," said Desi.

The other snowmobilers did attempt CPR but it was too late.  Officials say the area near McCormick is still highly risky because of the weak layers of snow.
