CALDWELL, Idaho -- Canyon County officials say a 24-year-old man accused of plotting to kill Homedale Police Chief Jeff Eidemiller has pleaded guilty to solicitation of first degree murder.

John Wayne Richmond Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced June 18 before 3rd District Judge Renae Hoff.

County Prosecutor John Bujak tells the Idaho Press Tribune that Richmond's change of plea came during a March 26 pretrial conference.

Richmond was arrested in December after officials said he traded drugs for a gun in an exchange arranged by officers, intending to use the weapon to shoot Eidemiller.

Under Idaho law, solicitation of a crime can carry the same penalty as an attempt to commit the crime.
