WALLACE, Idaho -- One person died Friday morning at the Galena Mine in Wallace, Idaho.
According to Heather Bailey Foster, Executive Assistant at the Galena Mine, there was an accident around 8 a.m. in which a man who works at the mine was fatally injured.
The victim's family was notified, but his identity has not been released.
Officials say they do not know whether the fatality was caused by a rock burst or explosion, but Foster said the accident did take place underground.
No one else was injured.
The Galena Mine is owned by the U.S. Silver Corporation.
Foster says the victim was not an employee of the U.S. Silver Corporation, but a contracted worker. Several contracted companies work at the Galena Mine site, and officials have not released which one the victim worked for.
The accident is under investigation by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
