POCATELLO, Idaho — The family of a man who hanged himself in Franklin County Jail have reached a settlement in their lawsuit against county.
The Idaho State Journal reports that the relatives of Clair Johnson sued the county, the sheriff's department and jail deputy Dave Matthews after Johnson killed himself in the jail in 2007. In the lawsuit, the family contended that Johnson was intoxicated and a known suicide risk, and that the jailer failed to check on him between midnight and 8 a.m. on the day he died. The family also contended that it was the department's policy to let Matthews sleep through all or most of his shift.
The terms of the settlement were not released.
