MOBILE, Ala. – An Idaho girl has been named America’s first ever Distinguished Young Woman.

Madison Leonard, a recent graduate of Coeur d'Alene High School, was Idaho’s representative in the America’s Junior Miss contest.

According to their Web site, the scholarship program changed its name this year from America’s Junior Miss to Distinguished
Young Women to better reflect its mission as a program that rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women.

Leonard won a total of $41,000 in cash scholarships during Saturday's competition. She plans to attend Pepperdine University to study journalism in the fall.
