BOISE - A popular former radio DJ is dead after he had a stroke on the set of a reality show.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Tom Sparks, 33, died during the taping of "Wipeout" - the ABC reality show where contestants try to navigate an obstacle course made of elevated, moving platforms suspended over water.
It happened last week in Los Angeles. A spokesperson for the show's production company told EW that Sparks ran the first leg of the course and began complaining of knee pain.
He later died at a Los Angeles hospital of an apparent stroke. Sparks' father told the Idaho Mountain Express that his death may have been triggered by a pre-existing blood condition.
Sparks was a morning host at KSKI radio in Sun Valley before moving to California.
“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family,” a joint ABC/Endemol statement read. “This is a tragic loss and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
