LOWELL, ID —A Coeur d’Alene man died Thursday after a small plane crash in Lowell, Idaho.

Idaho County Sheriff’s Dispatch announced Jahan Ashtiani, 48, died during the fatal crash at the Moose Creek Airstrip approximately 32 miles east of Lowell.

Ashtiani, the pilot, and a 49-year-old passenger had flown from Coeur d'Alene into the Moose Creek area on a fishing trip. A thunderstorm was moving into the area and they attempted to leave prior to its arrival.  During takeoff, a gust of wind caught the plane, flipped it over, and crashed it.  Ashtiani died at the scene while the passenger suffered minor injuries.

The investigation will continue by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
