EMMETT, Idaho -- A 3-year-old Emmett boy died this weekend when the bike helmet he was wearing got caught on a swing set.
Police say Asher Meyers was playing in his backyard Saturday on the 400 block of East 5th Street.
His mother went to check on him and discovered he was not breathing and called 911.
When officers arrived, they found the father giving the boy CPR.
He later died at a Boise hospital.
The Ada County coroner conducted an autopsy on the boy's body and concluded that the cause of death is asphyxiation by accidental hanging. The strap of the bicycle helmet he was wearing got hung up on a bar of the swing set.
The boy's father said his son had just got finished riding his bike and went immediately to the swings and had left his helmet on.
A viewing for Asher Meyers is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.
His funeral service is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emmett.
