BOISE --- Three kids thought they were at Zoo Boise Wednesday as part of Military Appreciation Day.

Their dad, Air Force Staff Sgt. Adam Spencer has been deployed three times, most recently he has been away for seven months.

He got to come home on leave and his wife Krista decided to put together a special surprise for their kids.

With the help of Zoo Boise and Mayor Dave Bieter who introduced the mystery guest, the surprise went off without a hitch.

Krista says the kids had no idea that dad would be there.

She says the deployments are difficult and this surprise was just what the kids needed.

"We just wanted to surprise them. He's been gone three times, so we were trying to decide where we were going to do it, and the zoo seemed like the funiest place," Krista Spencer said.

As you can imagine, the reunion was emotional for everyone in attendance, especially for dad and kids.

"Did it bring tears to your eyes?” asked News Channel 7.

“It did, that's why I'm still wearing glasses. I knew it was gonna happen," replied Adam Spencer.
