MERIDIAN -- One person is dead and one is in the hospital after a parking lot shooting late Friday night.
Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea said at about 10:20 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at the Walgreen’s parking lot on the corner of Linder and McMillan.
When they arrived, Meridian Police discovered the body of 30 year-old Emmett Corrigan, a criminal defense attorney from Meridian. Basterrechea said he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and head.
Officers said they also found a second man (42 years of age) with a superficial gunshot wound to the head, who was transported to a local hospital. That man (whose name has not been released) is the suspect in this shooting. Basterrechea said he will likely be charged with 1st degree murder upon his release from medical care. Basterrechea said he expects that to happen by Sunday.
Basterrechea said the suspect confronted Corrigan over a woman. The suspect had a gun. A struggle ensued, ending with Corrigan being killed.
It is unknown if the suspect was shot during the struggle, or if the suspect shot himself.
The Meridian Police Department recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.
Investigators have already talked to some witnesses.
