The icon of the World Cup, the vuvuzela, sprays a primordial soup of bacteria and disease across fans, a new study says.

Just a short burst from a vuvuzela creates a shower similar to a sneeze, the BBC published Thursday, that travels at four million droplets per second.

The study conducted by PLoS One journal, concluded one vuvuzela could spray airborne illnesses like the common cold or flu.

Meanwhile, organizers of the 2012 London Summer Olympics are considering banning the obnoxious instruments.
