In the wake of newly exposed shortcomings of the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, Representative Derek Kilmer met with a group of veterans in Tacoma on Wednesday, to hear their concerns.

Last week, the VA Office of Inspector General released a report detailing the manipulation of wait lists for veterans seeking medical care. Among its main findings was that 226 veterans trying to use the Phoenix VA waited an average of 115 days for their first primary care appointment.

The veterans that met Wednesday in Tacoma echoed those concerns.

One widow of a Vietnam Veteran told Representative Kilmer she believes her husband died because the VA Hospital took too long to diagnose his cancer.
